The terminal of the Badajoz Logistics Platform will connect with the main ports in the south-west of the peninsula
The intermodal rail terminal of the Badajoz Logistics Platform is now ready to start operations, marking a milestone for the logistics development of Extremadura. Officially inaugurated in a ceremony presided over by the president of the Junta, María Guardiola, this infrastructure will connect with the main ports of the southwest peninsular, including Sines, Setúbal, Lisbon, Algeciras and Valencia, as well as with the Pyrenees in the north.
With a capacity to handle trains of up to 750 metres and a storage capacity of 1,200 containers, it is expected to start running an average of five trains a week. This project, the result of a public-private partnership between Extremadura Avante and MEDWAY, aims to boost the competitiveness of Extremadura's exports by offering a more efficient and economical alternative for freight transport.
At the event, the importance of this infrastructure for attracting investment and generating employment in the region was highlighted, while it was also announced that the ExpacioNavalmoral and ExpacioMérida rail terminals will come into operation in 2025, expanding Extremadura's logistics network. With an investment of close to 12 million euros, the Badajoz Logistics Platform is set to become a key driver of economic growth in the region.
